St. Joseph
St. Joseph was a poor carpenter of Nazareth. God knew He could trust Joseph, so He chose him for a most important task. He became the husband of Mary and Foster Father of Jesus. He led Mary and Jesus safely into Egypt when Herod was trying to kill the Child. Joseph worked very hard to make life safe and happy for Jesus and Mary. In turn, Jesus has made him the Protector of the Whole Church.
Most people will pray to Saint Joseph when trying to sell their home. Over the years, a tradition arose of St. Joseph having a special power in real estate transactions. European nuns buried a medal with his likeness on property they hoped to acquire for convents. Gradually medals were replaced with statues and the focus changed from buying to selling. The reasons behind using this particular saint is Joseph's strong connection with families, homes, and moving. Today, people of all religious denominations follow the tradition of using a St. Joseph statue to aid in the sale of their home.
Feast Day is March 19th.
