Father Thomas P. Dwyer of the Augustinian Order (founder of Villanova University) was born in Bryn Mawr on October 23, 1932. His family moved to Ardmore when Thomas was an infanct. Although the Dwyers were much closer to St. Colman's in Ardmore, they attended St. Denis in Havertown (their home parish). Father Dwyer attended St. Denis parochial school. The school was run by the Mercy Sisters from Merion, Pa. From St. Denis, he prodeeded to West Catholic High School for three years before entering Augustinian Academy in Staten Island. He graduated from there in 1950. After a year in the Novitiate, he went to Villanova University and graduated in 1955 with a B.A. in Philosophy. In the fall of the same year, Fr. Dwyer was sent to the Augustinain Internation School in Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1958 and returned to Amerca in July 1959. He immediately volunteered to be a missionary in Japan where he ministered to Tokyo, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Nagasaki. Because of illness, Father Dwyer returned to the Augustinian Monestary at Villanova in 2010. He lives a peaceful and happy life there. Fr. Dwyer has also written Father Eddie's Greatest Game and other Stories and it is published by Villanova University. 220 pages ~ softcover
