The First Holy Communion is a very special day for a young Christian. First Communion is a tradition largely held by the Catholic Church, alongside many parts of the Anglican and Lutheran churches as well. It is a special time in a person’s life.
For Catholics, the First Holy Communion is the third of seven sacraments, following Baptism and First Reconciliation. The Church believes that one must be cleansed of all sins prior to receiving Jesus’ body and blood. It is also under this belief that the young patrons wear white, a symbolic color of purity.Alongside having received the sacrament of Baptism and First Reconciliation a person must be at least the age of reason. The age of reason is generally around second grade because the child is capable of reasoning between right and wrong and can consciously accept the body and blood of Jesus. This does not mean you must receive your First Communion in second grade; it is simply the age at which a person may first receive Holy Communion. Many people, converts especially, receive these sacraments at a later time in life.
St. Jude Shop has a large selection of apparel for both boys and girls at the age of reason who are preparing to make their First Communion. Alongside the white attire, you can find religious accessories like cross-shaped tie clips for young gentlemen and beautiful veils for young ladies.
