Celebrating Easter

Easter is just around the corner, so it is that time to stock up on religious goods like jewelry to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. This year, Easter will be celebrated on Sunday, March 27th. Easter is a celebration by the Christian community in honor of Jesus’s resurrection. Good Friday, a few days prior to Easter, is the day that Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross for the sins of his people. His crucifixion allows Christians to sin and then repent those sins. This is a privilege for all who believe in Him and His glory.

How is the date of Easter Determined?

You may be wondering why it is that Easter seems to fall on a different date every year; this is because the celebration of Easter is always held on the Sunday following the Paschal Full Moon. A Paschal Full Moon is the first astronomical full moon after the spring equinox. This moon is predetermined by astronomers and can happen anytime from March 21st to April 18th.

Lent

Western Christianity participates in Lent beginning on Ash Wednesday. Lent is a 40 day period of fasting, repentance, and spiritual discipline. It begins 40 days prior to Easter and does not include Sundays in the count. If you are an Eastern Orthodox Christian, then lent is celebrated for the 40 days following Easter. The same rules apply whether you celebrate lent prior to or after Easter Sunday. The spiritual fasting of lent provides unique benefits to the believer. It requires a vast amount of self-control and discipline, as you are forced to fight desires. This is thought to remove your focus from the physical and direct it to the spiritual instead.
